Congratulations to the 2026 Outstanding School Board

BISD Board of Trustees Named 2026 Outstanding School Board

The Boerne Independent School District Board of Trustees has been named the 2026 Outstanding School Board by the Texas Association of School Administrators (TASA), recognizing the Board’s leadership, commitment to students, and dedication to the Boerne community.

The TASA School Board Awards program has recognized Texas school boards that demonstrate outstanding leadership and a commitment to public education and their communities since 1971. This recognition represents the strength of a school board’s collective leadership and its impact on student success and the district it serves.

The Boerne ISD Board of Trustees was selected following a competitive regional and state-level process that considered school boards from across Texas. The selection committee recognized the Board for its ability to maintain a clear focus on students while providing strong governance, supporting instructional excellence, and planning thoughtfully for the long-term success of the district.

The committee also recognized the Board’s collaborative approach to governance and its commitment to creating the conditions in which students and staff can succeed. Trustees have demonstrated a willingness to listen to families, educators, and community members and to use that feedback to guide decisions. Their work reflects Boerne ISD’s core values of Every Child, Every Day; Respectful Relationships; Excellence through Integrity; and Commitment to Service.

“Boerne ISD is fortunate to have a Board of Trustees that understands that strong governance is ultimately about putting students first,” Superintendent Dr. Kristin Craft said. “Our trustees are thoughtful, engaged, and deeply committed to the future of this district. They ask the right questions, support our educators, and make decisions with both the needs of today’s students and the future of our community in mind. This recognition is a reflection of their collective leadership and the trust they have built with our staff, families, and community.”

“Serving on this Board is both an incredible responsibility and an incredible privilege,” Board President Courtney Darter-Bruce said. “This honor belongs to our entire Boerne ISD community. Our teachers and staff show up every day for our students, our families believe in our schools, and our community continues to support the work we do together. As a Board, our job is to listen, lead with purpose, and make decisions that keep students at the center. We are incredibly proud of what we have accomplished together and even more excited about what lies ahead for Boerne ISD.”
The Board’s leadership has helped position Boerne ISD among the state’s highest-performing school districts while maintaining a focus on the whole student. Trustees have supported academic achievement, innovative learning opportunities, strong schools, and responsible growth while recognizing that sustained excellence requires both high expectations and thoughtful stewardship.

“Great school boards do more than approve budgets and policies,” Dr. Craft said. “They create the conditions for a district to pursue excellence, and they have the courage to make decisions that will benefit students not just today, but years from now. Our Board has consistently demonstrated that kind of leadership.”

The recognition is particularly meaningful as Boerne ISD continues to experience significant growth and navigate the opportunities and responsibilities that come with serving a rapidly growing community. The Board has remained focused on preserving the district’s culture and academic excellence while ensuring that facilities, programs, staffing, and resources keep pace with the needs of students and families.

The Boerne ISD Board of Trustees is comprised of Courtney Darter-Bruce, President; Rich Sena, Vice President; Sarah Faulkenberry, Secretary; Kristi Schmidt, Carlin Friar, Garrett Wilson, and Dallas Pipes.
The TASA School Board Awards program was established in 1971 to recognize school boards that have demonstrated outstanding leadership and commitment to their students and communities. Regional Honor Boards are selected from across Texas, with finalists advancing for consideration for the Outstanding School Board designation, the highest honor in the program.
